Injectables and fillers have made achieving smoother, plumper skin an affordable reality for many patients experiencing common signs of aging. The most popular brand of facial treatment being Botox®, patients have seen cost for this treatment rise since its introduction into cosmetic offices in the late 90s. Dysport, another brand offering the same main ingredient as Botox®, provides patients with an alternative that has its own benefits – but which is right for you?
Main Similarities
It’s important to note that both treatments freeze or relax the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between eyebrows, and around eyes. Both treatments are also approved as safe and effective. While Botox® has been available in the US for decades, Dysport® has been popular in Europe and has recently picked up traction as a popular treatment in the States, but it is no less effective for safe than Botox® for its recent approval.
Treatment Area
Small, focused treatment in delicate areas like the corners of the eyes, are usually best served by Botox® injections, as Botox tends to stay in one place when injected. Dysport® has the tendency to spread, which is great for larger treatment areas, as this also means fewer injections are needed to achieve desired results. When applied to smaller treatment areas, spread caused by Dysport® can create elevated chance of drooping brows or eyelids.
Longevity
In general, both treatments provide patients with around four months of results, until the active ingredient is absorbed and metabolized by the body. However, Dysport®’s makeup is slightly different than that of Botox® and may be metabolized at a slower rate, creating results that are longer lasting. While this is not necessarily the case for every patient, it is a factor that should be kept in mind when considering which treatment to select.
How to Get the Results you want with Injectables
There are many things to consider when choosing the brand of injectable to meet your aesthetic goals. In general, patients looking for targeted treatment may want to consider Botox®, while those who are looking to treat a wider area while keeping cost more reasonable, may find their best match in Dysport®.
