Facelifts are highly effective cosmetic treatments that allow patients to feel more confident in their appearances. Many people put off treatment until their 50s or 60s; however there are ways to combat more serious signs of aging before you need more extensive treatment, which saves you time and money.
Fillers and Injectables
For patients who aren’t ready to commit to surgical intervention for aesthetic facial improvements, injectables and dermal fillers can be a great first step to seeing the results you want. Minimal lines, wrinkles, and drooping skin can be addressed with several units of Botox®, Juvederm®, Restalyne®, or other effective brands. It’s important to note, however, that these treatments last for 6 months on average, requiring twice yearly touch-ups. As wrinkles and fine lines become tougher to combat, choosing only injectables may not necessarily be cost-effective.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
In cases of more moderate skin aging issues, laser skin resurfacing can be another non-surgical treatment that produces the results you’re looking for. Deep level lasers target issues like acne scarring, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles by encouraging the production of collagen for smoother, plumper, and more youthful looking skin. Laser skin resurfacing does include downtime for recovery, compared to fillers and injectables which are simple injections requiring no recovery. After several days of rest, patients begin to note rejuvenated skin for an all-over refreshed appearance that may not be achievable with dermal fillers.
Mini and Full Facelifts
If it’s time for a facelift and you’re ready for surgical treatment, less invasive methods are available to firm loose and drooping skin. Specifically, a mini facelift can help alleviate some of the most troubling areas of facial aesthetic, such as sagging skin on cheeks, the appearance of double chin, and loose skin on the neck. When more comprehensive changes are needed, full facelifts that target the forehead and upper eyes can be utilized as well.
Tips to Keep in Mind for Conservative Treatment
The sooner you take action with pesky facial skin issues, the less invasive treatment can be and the longer you can enjoy the results of procedures. While fillers may only last for 6 months, more moderate treatments like skin resurfacing can last for 10 years and facelifts can last for decades. Keep in mind what your expectations are, in terms of upkeep, longevity, and overall expectations. Conservative facelifts in the place of constant filler treatments can produce lasting results with significantly less retouches over time. While there is an initial investment in recovering, this approach can be more ideal for patients who are seeking treatment that require less maintenance over time.
